Bob Marley will never die

Written by

It was the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley's death a couple of weeks ago. On Q, the CBC's daily arts and entertainment program, there was some discussion about the legacy of Bob's music and the message it embodied. What emerged from the discussion was that while his music is both bright and positive, he was also writing profoundly political and revolutionary songs meant to raise the consciousness of the planet.

And so in recognition and honour of the great Bob Marley, two very recent songs that continue this legacy.

K'Naan, a Somalia-born Canadian hip hop artist, and his song Wavin' Flag.

And Matisyahu, an American Hasidic Jewish reggae musician and his song One Day.

Both joyous celebrations, both searching for something higher. I think Bob would be proud.
