Speed Mountaineering

Written by

This man, Ueli Steck, speed climbs The Eiger, a 3970 m (13025 ft) peak   in the Bernese Alps in Switzerland.

What I love about this video, besides the amazing physical feat, is just how positive about life Steck is. You can tell in the way he speaks about "giving everything his body has got," and says, "you're progressing in something and that's what it's all about - you want to keep moving and having progess in your life". He's really seeing his mountain climbing as a metaphor for life. That's cool. And you can see in the way he's climbing he's got such a joyful determination about him that just says - "anything goes", and "I'm going to do it no matter what." It's totally inspiring and makes you cheer for him. I've been watching the video before work-outs this week and it's definitley put things in perspective: squeezing out an extra few reps seems much easier!
