Wow. Okay. This week kinda snuck up on me, so I'm going with something different this week.

I had a whole piece composed on the rising number of pedestrian fatalities in this city here. I was going to yell and scream, pontificate just a bit, and even - if you can believe it - stand on my soap box.

Problem is, that whole thing was in my head and it is now Thursday morning and I gotta go to work. So instead I offer up a couple of links...

I've been listening to a couple of history podcasts of late that I thought I might share. The first, and more general podcast is quite simply entitled History of Rome. This is a broad overview of exactly that, the history of Rome from beginning to end. It provides a condensed and simplified narrative arc for the rise and fall of the Roman republic and empire. The second, and perhaps more interesting, is Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. Death Throes of the Republic (parts one through six...and number six is over five hours long! seriously) traces the beginning of the end of the Roman Republic and the emergence of one-man rule.

I leave it up to the listener to find lessons and parallels in our own times, but they are there.
