Classical Music in Dubstep

Written by

Awhile back, Br. Jeremy Johnson wrote a great piece on cyborgs, human evolution, and the musical style of dubstep. For those perhaps not as familar with dubstep, here's a short primer. What I didn't realize before yestersday was that there is a whole sub-genre of dubstep remixes of classical pieces. This week's Jubebox takes us through a sampling of them.

First up Beethoven's Fur Elise (good head bobbin' beats in this one):

--

Next Mozart's Turkish March (super badass):

--

Next Chopin's Nocturne (creepy in the best sense):

--

As the guy whose written about how he hates Christmas, surprisingly I found myself really digging this dubstep remix of The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies by Tchaikovsky.

--

Finally in the vein of classical music's epic side, Bach's Toccata and Fugue. While we're on the subject, check out TJ's ultra-stellar piece on fugues
