    Whew' a doozy of a prayer by Burroughs.

    I can't think of a more contrasting sentiment than the one linked below, from Brother David Steindl-Rast:

    Listening to the first, I feel let down and cynical, like it's time to protest. With the second, I'm at peace, open, and willing to extend a hand. Somehow I want to live from the second, while keeping the realities of the first in mind.

    It's times like this that Gramsci's famous assertion seems most relevant:

    "We must have pessimism of the intellect, but optimism of the will".
