Fusing forms: Art gets better

Written by

Man, fusion art forms are cool. I'm sure that people have been synthesizing ideas and art since we had opposable thumbs but you have to believe that the process is being sped up by today's cross-cultural connectivity. How else could you get Mixed Martial Arts, a hybrid of the most effective martial arts from around the world (Japan, Brazil, Thailand, USA, and more). Or the "spiritual but not religious" genre. Or Hawaiian Pizza. And I don't have to tell you about Jazz. (by the way, I'm sure there are a billion examples out there so throw some in the comments below if you have some others).

When I saw the clip below it made perfect sense given all this cross cultural fusion. I'm surprised no one thought of it sooner (or maybe I just haven't seen it until now - thank you Mr. Spike Jonze). Worlds collide in this cool mix of classical and hiphop; with world renowned cellist, Yo-yo Ma, and world class popper/jooker, Lil' Buck.
